What is LGD-4033 Ligandrol?
LGD-4033 is a non-steroidal, orally available selective androgen receptor modulator (SARM), with a molecular weight of 338.248. and a molecular formula of C14H2F6N2O. It is the subject of ongoing scientific attention as an agent to increase lean muscle mass and bone mineral density, with less risk of potential side effects compared to alternative androgen receptor chemicals (e.g. prostate hypertrophy) .
Modes of action
LGD-4033 is a member of a class of drugs known as ligand pharmaceuticals. Studies have shown that it binds to androgen receptors (AR) in a tissue selective fashion . It is well-know that AR stimulation benefits muscle growth and bone density. These are known as anabolic effects. Clinical trials are underway to assess its ability to stimulate the synthesis of proteins to build muscle tissue, via a downstream signaling pathway. If it meets the required criteria for FDA approval, this anabolic activity could lead to its future use in the treatment of sarcopenia (wasting of muscles) . Preclinical models also predict positive effects on bone mineral density . It may therefore be used to treat osteoporosis (loss of mass in bones) in humans someday.
A 2020 study in rats observed “beneficial effects … on the muscle structure and metabolism”. However it also observed less tissue selectivity when the dose was increased .
A 2010 study found that human consumption of LGD-4033 increased physical performance and lean body mass, and noted its long elimination half-life and a lack of negative side effects .
A 2020 case study documented liver toxicity following use of LGD-4033 (10mg daily) without medical supervision, similarly to the common misuse of androgen receptor chemicals .
